The Blessings Of Brothers And Sisters
 By Ayla B.

Often it seems as though siblings are just an annoyance. Many times we find ourselves irked at them for taking our book or pulling our hair. I know what it’s like, as I have one sister and three brothers. My sister is eleven, my little brother is twelve. My two oldest brothers are twins, both eighteen years of age. Yet siblings are often our best friends. If you live in a the country, as I do, often there is nobody to talk to or go for walks or horse back riding with except for your siblings. I live on a farm about 3 miles from a very small town and the only Christian children around are the ones in my family. So I am rarely seen without one of my siblings. Unless of course I am with my horse, then it is usually just Lunar (my horse) and I galloping down the road.

When you are tempted to get mad at your siblings, think of what Jesus would do. Would Jesus retaliate? Or would He smile and say only kind words? Also think, “How would I feel if my brother/sister died today?” I for one would be extremely sad if my siblings died. No, I’m not perfect in any way, I do still get mad at them and say things I wish I had never said, but I find it really helps if I pray and ask Jesus to help me not to get mad.

Remember, all Christians have trials; we need to smile and only speak kindly to all, especially our siblings. The Bible says in Proverbs 15:1, “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” So don’t scream at them when they are annoying you, just smile and say, “Please don’t do that, it hurts when you pull my hair,” Usually when they torment you, they are doing it just to see you get mad. It really surprises them when they get a smile and soft answer instead of the violent outburst they expected. Also, try to do nice things for them such as making their bed or tidying their room. You could also help them with one of their chores. It is a wonderful surprise when you go to do a chore and it is already done!

Always remember that siblings are a blessing, not an annoyance. Be kind to them and they will be kind to you! God bless you all as you endeavor to please Him!
